Why cargo will not unload in Transport Fever 3, and what fixes it: destinations, warehouses, terminals and the full chain table. Updated October 10, 2026.
Cargo that arrives but never unloads is the most reported Transport Fever 3 problem of launch month, and almost every case on the official forums traces back to one design change: in Transport Fever 3, stations and ports no longer store cargo at all. The series' old habit — dump freight at a station and let the town collect it — does not exist anymore. This page gives you the diagnosis order, the storage rule that replaces the old habit, and the full chain table so you can check that your cargo actually has somewhere to go.
The rule that explains almost every case
During the launch-window fish-unloading threads on the official Steam discussions, a member of the Urban Games team laid out the mechanic directly, and multiple players confirmed it solved their lines: ports, stations and other infrastructure no longer hold cargo; you place a warehouse near the port to hold it; and cargo only unloads where it has a destination — a factory that needs it, a district that demands it, or a warehouse built to store it. Players who replied after trying it reported their ships finally unloading (official forum thread, October 2026).
Translated into a checklist, that gives you the diagnosis order below. Work top to bottom and change one thing at a time — creators who walk through broken lines on video reach the fault faster precisely because they isolate variables.
Diagnosis checklist: cargo arrives, never unloads
- Does the cargo have a destination? Open the receiving industry or district and confirm it actually consumes what you are delivering. Cargo with no consumer anywhere on the map will sit in the first storage it finds forever. The chain table below is the fastest way to check.
- Is there storage at the delivery point? Since stations no longer store, a delivery point without a warehouse (or without an industry that takes the goods directly) cannot complete a handoff. For port deliveries especially, a warehouse inside the port's area is part of the unloading path, not an optional upgrade.
- Does the storage match the cargo? A warehouse can have free space overall but no suitable section for the specific good — player reports from launch week include meat refused while fish filled the matching section, fixed by adding a second warehouse or the right storage extension.
- Is the onward line actually running? Warehouse fills up while products never leave? The unload worked; the next leg did not. Follow the goods one vehicle further before buying more storage — more capacity holds a bigger backlog, it does not create a destination.
- Terminal configuration at combined stations. Where a station handles passengers and freight, confirm the freight terminal for that cargo class actually exists; creator walkthroughs show mixed terminals silently refusing goods they are not configured for.
The chain table: every cargo and where it must end up
Before building or rebuilding a line, read the row for your cargo: the Manufacturer is where it appears, the Consumer is where it can be unloaded. Data from the official Wiki's Industries and Cargo manual, re-verified against the live page October 10, 2026.

FAQ
Why will my fish not unload at the port?
Because the port is no longer a warehouse. Fish needs either a fish market/consumer that takes it directly or a warehouse near the port to land in — this exact case was answered by Urban Games staff in the October launch threads and confirmed by several players. Place the warehouse, connect it, and the ships unload.
Cargo unloads at one stop but not the next — why?
That pattern means storage and destination exist at the first stop but not the second. Compare the two stops against the chain table above: the failing one is missing either a consumer that wants the cargo or storage configured for its class. This is also where mixed passenger-freight stations fail — the freight terminal may not be present at the second stop.
Should I build a warehouse at every industry?
No. Industries that consume cargo take deliveries directly, so a warehouse adds value only where you need intermediate storage: port landings, transfer points between vehicle types, or buffers ahead of slow consumers. Extra warehouses on direct industry-to-industry chains just add a handling step.
Chains vs warehouses — which should I fix first?
Fix the chain first. The table above tells you whether a destination exists at all; a warehouse cannot substitute for a missing consumer. Once the destination is confirmed, warehouses solve the storage half.
